Hello, thanks for looking at my question.

I have been considering upgrading my processor for a while now and I've decided now is the time to do it, since most modern games I get FPS problems on. However, I'm not sure which processor to buy and which is best value for money - if I go for an intel one, I will also have to buy a new motherboard, but I've heard upgrading to another AMD one will not make much difference. Do you have any recommendations/ideas? It would need to be a UK website, eBuyer preferably. Thanks in advance!

FX-6300
8GB RAM
MSI GTX 970

I have quite a bit of spare money, so money won't be an issue, but I'd prefer it to be as cheap as possible.

Considering the FX-8350 with Wraith cooler is ~ £145; moving to Intel option may very well be the better choice:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor (£174.99 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: ASRock B150M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (£62.49 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (£36.89 @ CCL Computers)
Total: £274.37
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

But there's a catch with switching motherboard. Windows license is tied to it. If your Windows license is a OEM one, there may be extra cost of a new Windows license on top of it.

Is it worth spending that much? Will I see a big performance boost in games with those parts?

quite a bit better for gaming yes

though you should go for two 4gb ram sticks instead of the single 8 for dual channel

remember the cost would be somewhat reduced because you can sell your current stuff
