This CPU is really that powerful? I keep hearing people even starting a online server with that processor (I do not know how servers work) I want the technical details if you know any, like how is the speed compared to other i7 CPUs, lifespan etc. I have one on my system but I didnt noticed any huge difference, thats probably because I have a ancient GPU decreases the performance together I think

I also do know this processor gets hot/cold very quickly, temps never stay at one or two numbers, since I can't buy a decent cooler , (with stock fan) I sometimes rendering 720p/1440x900 videos on Sony Vegas for my youtube account, I can see the temps magically jumps to 78-85c. I hope this not killing my CPU since I do not render videos everyday- sometimes resting the PC for like half hour to 1 hour.

In short words, can you folks give me somekind comparison of lifespan and tech details with other Intel processors? if thats possible? I used a Core 2 Quad 8400 for like 5 years or so, never got a single problem (but I didnt remember the temps) I also rendered many content with that , so in my logic, if that ancient CPU runs for 5-6 years without problems, then 4790k should be run even more time right? I'm planning to buy a second one just for backup purposes

Thanks in advance

Solution
Dont search for a specific cooler, any cooler which has a tdp of max 200W it is good.

EDIT: I also live in the south-eastern europe and i got plenty of choices.
You better buy a backup motherboard because the motherboard is very likely to die long before the cpu, cpus die very hard mostly by users fault(electric discharge, cheap psu overload, a.s.o.). A motherboard if you are unlucky it will last 3 years if you are lucky about 10 years. I have motherboards 5-6 years adn still working so at motherbaords depends mostly on luck and how i said earlier on external factors such as psu overload.
How Turkey3 said, your build is likely to become outdated before anything dies but if something dies it is most likely that the first 2 components to die are the motherboard and the videocard.

He already has the cpu, he is worried that will die soon. An to asnwer you the performance is very very close to the new i7s and you can get very very good deals on the 4790k now which in my opinion if you make a budget pc i would go for 4790k instead of 6600k

Thanks for the replies, Yes I worried a bit because I render videos every 2-3 days, and that causes heat up to 85c but my rendering takes about only 8-15 minutes. so I think its not a huge problem in terms of lifespan

also I agree, Intel CPU are very expensive (at least in my location) so I have to spend my money carefully, if a person running a 84-populated server, then this cpu must be really powerful. I dont go with AMD CPUs because they causing some issues with modern games as far as I read on Steam forums, I just worried about heat , thats all

Well a decent cpu cooler for a non-overclocked cpu is not too expensive so you can spend 20-30$ on a cpu cooler instead of buying spare parts.

You being serious questkid? A good deal in a 4790k puts it well above a 6700k in price/performance. It's still a very strong cpu that's overclocks well.

Obviously, if buying today then it'd need to be a good deal and you give up ddr4 etc....but it's far far far from out dated due to the small ipc increases we get from intel

Dragos Manea I know man, but I don't live in US- I live in eastern europe and computer pieces are very hard to find, especially graphics cards and fans. Before typing this post I searched almost everywhere in my location, did phone calls to stores, all I got is "sorry, this product not available in our stock" so I don't have any choice but stick with stock fan. thats why I was asking

I always wonder...the 4790k and 6700k have the same bclk frequency, what improvements have been made to the 6700k ? Did Intel know what they where doing when making these two processors? Personally i wouldn't mind having the 4790k even though its not the latest Skylake generation.:heink:
