I have a windows XP laptop and every time I try to start it the folowing message appears:
,, CMOS Settings Wrong
CMOS Date/Time
Press F2 to run setup''
If I press F2 it takes me to the BIOS and the time is set to 00:00:00 and the date is set to TUE 1 10 2002.
If I enter the corect date and time and if i save the changes it will let me run the computer, but if I shut it down it will show the exact message and the date and time in the BIOS will be set back like i didn't change it. Please help me ! :(

The battery for the CMOS needs to be replaced. You will get this message every time you turn the computer on. Some computers have an alternate key to just boot up without running the setup routine; usually only the time/date is lost.

Yup, sounds like a dead RTC/CMOS battery.

Do you still lose CMOS/RTC with the laptop plugged in or with a known-good battery in it? I would expect the RTC to use any available power source when available instead of exclusively using a dedicated battery.

I know that the laptop battery is dead and I must keep it plugged in for it to work.
