I swapped in an H-110 motherboard, you arent overclocking, so no need for a Z170 board, this saved $100 right off the bat
another $200 was saved by swapping the GTX 1070 for an RX 480. the 480 IS a bit slower, but you aren't going to notice at 1920x1080, both cards are optimized for 1440P/VR gameplay (at 60 Hz, there will be no difference between the 480's 90 fps and the 1070's 100 fps).
while you said not to mess with the peripherals, IMHO its a huge waste of money to have $200 in keyboard and mouse, and $60 in a freaking
mousepad. I replaced with a less expensive mechanical keyboard (still with multicolored LEDs) and 16000 ppi mouse, and got rid of the mousepad altogether.
