CPU: i7-6700k 4 cores
PSU: EVGA SuperNova NEX650G

Hello! I've been frustrated for some time. I tested my motherboard with only CPU cooler installed and power connected to both motherboard and CPU. Pressed button, I could see the light on motherboard was on, and the fan was spinning. However, the whole thing only lasted for about 10 seconds and it shut down, then started again, and failed again. It's like trying to start but there is something blocking it.
I only plugged in the power switch and reset switch.
This is the first time to build a pc. I really need help because I have no idea of the reasons.

clear CMOS and try again. you sure you have all the power cables plugged in correctly? and where are you physically placing the motherboard, maybe there is a short somewhere? are you sure you installed the cpu correctly?

I am not sure how this works, but I followed the guide and used a screwdriver to touch the two pins on the motherboard for a few seconds (power disconnected). Then I restarted again, but the problem is still there. It did boot up but only lasted for like 10s.

I am pretty sure that I have all the power cables plugged in correctly. ( I only connected the CPU power and motherboard power, power switch and reset switch, and I checked a couple times to make sure it's correctly plugged in.)

There is only one way to plug in the CPU, so yeah I have everything else you said done correctly.

well you might just have a defective part on your hands... unfortunately its hard to tell which part it is.

are there any debug LEDs on the motherboard? some boards will actually display a code (doesnt look like that one does) and others will just have red LEDs that might indicate a problem say near the RAM or whatever.

are you getting any signal from the onboard HDMI?

The only sign I had from the motherboard was just the LED light, a red stripe across the board around IO ports. This is actually what it should be like when it boots up and my friend has the same motherboard, but the difference is just mine doesn't last for long.

There is no code display on the motherboard or other LED light.

It's sad, isn't it? :(
