Is this PSU overkill?

The PSU (#6 below in the part list) may be overkill, or not... I heard bad brands don't use the "said" watts plus have a poor AMP rail voltage (mine seems fancy though ~ TOUGHPOWER w gold-looking grill n $120). All it could do is waste me money, but, 650watts may be not enough when I do happen to render.

1. Asus Motherboard Z170-A Z170 Core i7/i5/i3 LGA1151 Z170 DDR4 PCI Express 3.0 SATA ATX Retail
2. Intel 6th Generation Skylake 4 Core i7-6700 (comes with the needed stock cooler)
3. GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 Mini
4. RM-HX424C15FBK4/32 KINGSTON FURY BLACK D4 2400 32G 4X8
5. HD-I-WD-WD2003FZEX $SATA WD 2TB (7200rpm)BLACK,64MB,6Gb
6. (I won't be upgrading this pc), 1 level down from 750watt to 650watt should be great?
7. Deepcool Kendomen TI Black with Titanium Highlights Window Mid Tower Case - 2 White LED Fans, 3 Black Fans
8. ASUS (DRW-24F1ST/BLK/B) Internal 24x DVD Writer, OEM
9. Windows 7 Professional
10. PS-TT-SP-850M TT SMART M 850W CABLE MANAGEMENT PSU

That pc could run easily on a decent 450w psu like a corsair cx450m or Seasonic 450w. Rendering or any other high cpu usage program won't out-draw whatever wattage is set for the cpu. For the 6700 that's 65w TDP. A gtx1060 is 125w? on average, so you'd be looking at a total system draw at 100% (never happens) of @ 300w absolute maximum, probably less.

So yes, a 750w TT is way overkill, even a 650w is too much, you want to stay within @ 50-70% range nominal usage, so 450w would be perfect for your average 200w or so nominal draw.

While the Thermaltake Toughpowers are far from my favorite PSUs -- too many cheap capacitors -- they're not junk tier PSUs that outright lie. I would certainly have not purchased it at $120, but if this is the PSU you already have, that's water under the bridge.

You won't come near 650W as it is. You could SLI 1060s on that if you wanted to (I'm speaking theoretically, you can't actually SLI 1060s). It's a sub-150W GPU. The 6700 is around 100W when stressing it on Prime95.

Feel same as you re TT. Isn't outright junk, but would never willingly chose it. Unless the choice has already been made, I think it'd be worth going with another psu.

Which PSU then? Being either 600/650watt? My new builder was all like "I know all the best brands you must change your dis dis n this to dis dis n dis" and is really sure of it and wants to give me a good pc.

You hardly need 650W, but if you're determined to:

EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2, 80+ PLATINUM 650W for $99 on Amazon.
FSP Group AURUM S 600W $84.99 @ newegg
FSP Group 550W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply SLI CrossFire Intel Skylake Ready Hydro X (HGX550) $79.99 @ Amazon, 650W $84.99
SeaSonic SSR-650RM 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready$59.99 on @newegg (after $15 mail in rebate)

Though tbh you could also use a 400w unit, such as CORSAIR CX-M series CX450 450W 80 PLUS BRONZE Haswell Ready ATX12V & EPS12V Modular Power Supply ($59.99 at newegg after rebate) and you'd still have power to spare with the build you listed, especially if you wont be upgrading it. However, one suggestion if I may. If the hard drive you listed is the only one you plan to use, it'd be worth considering a solid state drive, as it will make a noticeable difference in overall performance of your system. If you dont need one or simply havent decided on one yet, disregard.
