cpu upgrade question

Hello everyone. Was wondering about cpu upgrading. Im going to upgrade from my current i5 4690 to an i7 , im still using 1150 motherboard. which i7 would be the best? :) and also when installing only a new cpu do i have to do something after or is it just to put it in and im all good?:) like do i have to update stuff or??!

Why do you want to do this "upgrade"?

The i7 4790k is the best cpu that fits your motherboard, but will not be a noticeable improvement in any real world task unless you do some serious productivity work.


To answer your other question, you just install the new cpu and heatsink with thermal paste and it will boot up and be good to go. Just make sure that if you re-use your current heatsink, clean the old paste off before applying new paste. If you get a new heatsink, it should already have it's own pre-applied paste.
