formatted system partition by mistake, pls help

my friend tried installing windows 7 on his laptop and ended up formatting his hard drive and now he cant do anything, i think he formatted his system partition and we've tried running thru some of the troubleshoots ive found here and elsewhere online, but it keeps coming up with errors related to an i/o device and that windows cant install as there is nothing to install on. help pls D:

Are you trying to recover from this or just reinstall windows?

If reinstalling windows you may need to click the Drive Options link on there where do you want to install to screen to show the drive
( Install will detect the previous windows and not present the drive to you on the main 'Where to' screen )
I would suggest deleting all the partitions and when the drive is completely unallocated highlight the drive and click next. Be sure to have any important data already backed up though it may be to late for that anyways
