I have an old computer with the specs needed to install Windows 98. I've got the Windows 98 CD and the 3.5 floppy needed to boot. The issue is the old laptop does not have a 3.5 floppy drive. If I buy an external 3.5 floppy that attaches to the laptop with USB, will the computer boot from that 3.5 external floppy and read the windows 3.5 disk. Thanks

Computers of that age did not boot off USB ports. The trick was to either get a bootable Win98 CD, or install DOS (or older Windows) on the hard drive and load drivers for the CD to be accessible. After that- run setup. My most agonizing install, YEARS ago- Had a Bootable Win95 CD, installed W95 just to install Win98 from a non-bootable CD.

What kind of computer is it?
