Do I need more ram

I am building a gaming rig, No editing, I might stream occasionally (1-2x a month). I am going to purchase the Corsair dominator 16 GB speed 2666. My question is, if there are advantages of having 32 GB of RAM, what are they?

From what you say 16GB should be plenty for now, down the road you may expand on what you do or find yourself running low on DRAM. If it will fit in the budget with no adverse affects and can go 32GB now, I would. If you go 16GB, say 28GB, down the road there are no guarantees if you try and 'add' another 16GB, even if it's the same exact model of DRAM.

I don't know if having that much ram is necessary for streaming. If all you do all the other time is play games, you don't need any more than 16gb max at the moment as very few games use more than 12gb currently. - most I have used is 10gb in Civ 5. Only advantage would be if you stream and as I don't know if it does help, that is questionable.

if you restrict your page file, you could still run out of memory. I helped someone with 32gb of ram who was running of memory with just 3gb used. So don't do that and think that the space it uses on hdd is a waste if you want to be able to ever use all that ram at once :)

True, he did have a memory leak too.
