Hi, my computer is currently only using my SSD for storage, giving me 111 gb storage max. I have a 1 tb hard drive installed too, and when i go to disk management it says not initialized and Unallocated. I want to change it so my main storage is my hard drive, but whenever I try to Initialize the hard drive, it says "the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". How do I fix this? PLEASE HELP

Hi there Time_Traveler555,

I/O (input/output) errors could be related to a connection related issue. As Ralston18 suggested, it may be a good idea to use different power and SATA cables. Also, you can use a different SATA port.

In case the issue persists, then I believe there's something wrong with the drive. You can just contact the place you got it from or the manufacturer's Support.

Cheers,

Is the 1 TB drive a new drive, refurbished drive, or a drive from some other system/device?

Double check the power and data connections on both ends. If there are any jumper pins check their configuration.

Did you do any formatting or partitioning?

Drive make and model? Try the manufacturer's diagnostic software to see if that can provide additional insight about the problem.
