Hey i'm having few problems choosing the right CPU.

I have GA-MA78LMT-S2

And i have AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor, 3200 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Installed on it.

I wanted to upgrade to AMD Athlon X4 860K

But i don't know if it will support my motherboard.

I have looked for the support list in the gigabyte site.
But it seems like this is some old list.

It's not on the mobos supported list, can check those CPU's supported here:

The sockets aren't the same. I've seen posts from people saying their old 955 when overclocked slightly had the same results compared to 860k.

Athlon X4 860K is for FM2+ socket and you have MB with AM3 socket so it would not work. Most you can put in it is a Phenom II X6 1100T processor according to list: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3583

The one I listed is best possible for that MB, any newer (FX series) one would require at least new MB.

Don't upgrade to a 6 core with that motherboard. It has no heatsink for VRM's and only a 3+1 power phase. You might be able to power up the system and do basic tasks, but if you do anything like gaming or a cpu intensive tasks the motherboard will be holding you back. I've tried that combo from my spare parts and it didn't go to well.
