To what i7 CPU should I upgrade to coming from i3770k

I want to freshen up my rig and get a new CPU, MB and ram. Everything else is fine. I am wondering what you guys would recommend. I was looking at the likes of i7 6700k or 6800k or higher but since I don't know a lot about CPUs I don't really know the difference.

I am using my rig mostly for gaming and browsing but soon I will get getting a drone and will need to be able to edit 4K videos on it. Money is not really an issue, I have been saving for quite sometime and have money to blow on those upgrades.

The 6700K is really not all that much faster than the 3770K. The 6800K has two more cores, which will mostly go unused in gaming but may be useful for video editing. In these new chips, per-clock performance is up ~20% and clockspeeds are slightly higher, but chances are very good you won't be able to tell a 3770K apart from a 6700K without using a program to measure the number of frames you're getting.

I'm content to keep my 3570K for a few more years, progress in CPUs has slowed to a crawl.

Would you not consider the up ~20% performance worth upgrading for ? Should I maybe spend it on a different Motherboard for my current CPU instead. I know this isnt probably the thread to ask but I have noticed the 3770k is limited to 3ddr ram and the 6700 up is able to use the 4ddr. Is there much difference when it comes to speeds and works between the two ? Is it worth upgrading all cpu, mb for better ram.

In the past, I've only upgraded when performance improvements were ~100%. Moving from an Athlon XP to Athlon64 nearly doubled performance. Going from a 64 to a 64 x2 literally doubled performance by doubling cores. From a 64 x2 to a Core2Quad more than doubled performance, due to higher clocks, better performance per clock and twice as many cores. Going from a Core2Quad to i5 3570K again more than doubled performance, from a ~50% increase in per-clock performance and ~50% higher clockspeed. In the 4-5 years since Sandy/Ivy came out, we've seen ~5% increases every year in performance, with most of the improvements in new CPUs coming in the form of lower power usage and thus greater battery life and performance in power-constrained mobile devices.

Don't get me wrong, Skylake/Broadwell are faster, but the difference might not be perceptible.

The performance increase moving from DDR3 to DDR4 is minimal in most applications. You should absolutely not change platforms just for the sake of moving to DDR4.
Also, just upgrading your motherboard without upgrading anything else would have no impact on performance.

Unless his old motherboard couldn't overclock or was just really bad at it and his new motherboard can OC and is good at it.

But the performance increase for OCing isn't very big, probably only like 15% on average.

If i am not running out on ram, neither I am in a need to change it will I be better of not doing at all. Should I maybe spend the money I would have spent on MB, CPU and ram on something else?

Is that a noticeable difference ? I mean if I where just to upgrade the MB for lets say around $150 mark would it be all that worth it? Or should I just go ahead and upgrade the cpu, mb and ram or in reality that is a waste of money and maybe I should spend it on something else.

Would you not recommend it on spending it on some gadget for the pc of some kid. Or I should really just wait for something good to come up? I am kind of sick of not spending all my money and saving it.
