Need new graphic card to my old PC

I need to upgrade my graphic card. Its too old to play games nowadays. My PC specs are;

CPU - intel i7 990x
Motherboard - gigabyte x58a-oc
PSU - Epsilon 800w
RAM - 16GB

the question is my motherboard is PCI-e 16 2.0 but gtx 980 or gtx 1080s are PCI-e 3.0. So I dont know if my motherboard is compatible with new graphic card. Or may be its compatible but its not efficient as its on the PCI-e 3.0?

I hope that I can explained my question cleary.

You will be fine with PCI-e 2.0, the difference in performance to 3.0 is pretty negligible. You can see some graphs in this thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2694698/pcie.html

I would look into maybe upgrading your PSU if it is getting old though, that is not a super high-quality unit.

You'll be fine. PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 are backwards compatible. There is essentially zero performance lose between the two as no card ever maxed out the bandwidth on 2.0 so 3.0 really didn't bring more to the table.
