Specs:
CPU = FX-6300
PSU = EVGA 750w b2
Mobo = MSI 970 gaming
GPU = GTX 1060 3gb
ram = 2x8gb

feedback has said that my new GPU is being bottlenecked by my CPU, so if i just overclock it for now will it help? and overclock it by how much?

Solution
How much you overclock is up to you. Generally, you increase clockspeed until it becomes unstable, then you add some voltage, rinse and repeat until your cooling can no longer handle the heat output from increased voltage and clockspeed.

Generally, you can get ~10-15% extra performance from overclocking, which is more than nothing but it's not going to make a game that's performing badly not perform badly. Expect to get 3-5fps extra in most cases, when you're very CPU-bottlenecked.

I run my 6350 at 4.6ghz 1.43v. Most fx cpu's will hit 4.4ghz no problem at around 1.35v to 1.41v, so I would try for 4.4ghz or a bit lower first and work your way up if you feell confident.

As far as how much performance it will add that depends on the game, if you are playing a game and seeing higher cpu usage than gpu usage or they are both near 100% yes an overclock can help quite a bit, if you have 100% gpu usage and lower cpu usage in your game then a cpu overclock likely won't do anything.

yes your CPU is a bit weak for the GTX 1060...overclocking the CPU will increase performance a fair bit in CPU demanding titles...depending on what CPU cooler you have on it...you can probably aim for at leat 4.2 to 4.4ghz without major issues...
good luck!

any recommendations for programs that can help me with this, hate using BIOS

My recommendation would be use the BIOS we have these nice UEFI BIOS's nowadays, its very simple to use in my opinion. You can use AMD overdrive if you want but that program has given me nothing but trouble, I only use it to monitor temp margins but it does have the functionality to overclock the cpu and change voltages.
