Hello. New builder here. When I fired up my computer the processor got hot. 60 degrees plus while gaming and 30 idle. Removed cooler to remove and replace thermal paste. Playing World of Warcraft on full settings ran CPU to 50 degrees and I saw idle as low as 20. Cool. Then I put Dues Ex mankind evolved in. Temp shoots up to 50,60, then 70. I turned it off after that. What could be the problem here. Amd8350, MSI 990ax gaming motherboard, evo212 cooler, artic silver 5 paste. Any help is appreciated for this new builder

By convection the normal airflow is down to up (the heatted air goes up), by putting two intake fans at tthe top you are fighting the normal airflow and create a heated bag of air just in the middle of the Pc.

The normal disposition is Back and top as exaust fans and front and bottom (if you have) as intake. This could be modiffied if the airflow is restricted (bad front airfow for example) or if you put side exaust fans, but is the usual way.

I would use one or two at top but to exaust heat.

These temperatures are more or less normal...What is your ambient (room) temperature.

AMD 8350 CPU gets hot, the thermal design is 125W...

You are safe as long as you don t go over 65c for an extended period of time for this CPU.

Best solution to keep temperature down is a better air cooler or watercooler.

I should add that I ended up hitting 78 degrees at one point. Im going to change thermal paste again. Being new to building maybe I screwed up the second time to. Although I put a rice sized amount on. If that doesn't work I'll look into a better cooler, but I thought the Evo 212 was a great cooler?

The Evo 212 works extremely well with intel CPU with low TDP.

is your CPU Cooler plugged into 'CPU_FAN' header on motherboard? Which way are your case fans oriented (intake/exhaust)?

Make sure your cooler is tightened down properly, maybe not making good contact with CPU. Just some ideas... you should not be hitting 70C especially if you are not overclocking

So I tired remounting the EVO 212 again. No go. I notice when it heated up the heatsink is hot to the touch, but the copper tubes are cold. any ideas. I ve re applied the thermal paste 5 times now. Using different methods. all yield the same result

Thanks Captain Obvious! I know it's not the best processor, but there are plenty of people who run alot cooler than I am. I've read that 62 is the max for an 8350. I'm way above that!

Sounds like you have mastered mounting the cooler! So that's not the problem...

Cooler plugged into CPU_FAN header? Case fan orientations? What program are you using to monitor temps and fan speeds? Are you also using software to control fan speeds?

Fan is plugged into CPU fan header.
1 case fan in front sucking in, 1 in back sucking out, and cooler Master on CPU
Using tempore, and overdrive, and bios to monitor system info
