is cat6 beneficial for home networking>

Solution

If you currently have Cat5e, no need to change.
Cat6a only adds the option of 10g, for up to 55 meters.
Obviously, you have to have 10g capable hardware at each end. Which you almost certainly do not.

Probably not. Your network will only perform at the speed of the slowest link.

Unless there is some specific problem attributable to the current cables then leave things alone.

No harm in purchasing up if, in the future, you do need new cables.

If building new, go with CAT6 over CAT5. If you already have CAT5, upgrade when you need to not. CAT5 will handle 1Gbps except over long distances and 10Gbps hardware costs too much for most people so there's little need for CAT6 at the moment.

Cat5e is rated at 1 Gbps up to 100m which is the longest distance any of them are rated for.
