Hello... I have MAXIMUS VIII RANGER which says that has a very good On-board 7.1 sound card that produces Crystal sound...
Right now i am thinking of buying gaming headset 7.1... Should i go with a usb or a 3.5mm headset? What do you think? What are the differences?
Thanks..

Buy audio monitors from a company that manufactures audio monitors!

Audio Technica, Sennheiser, etc.

What does logitech know about audio? NOTHING! They are experts at buying cheap components slapping them together, and making money.

USB audio is completely pointless and no better than whats on your mobo.

Get a good set of audio monitors.

There is no such thing as surround headphones, its physically impossible...
Headphone surround is complete garbage, it has been proven time and time again to be a negative, never a positive, in a set of audio monitors.

The 7.1 sound provided by your motherboard is for multiple speakers in a room. A space with volume that needs to be filled with sound. See how on your mobo you have multiple plugs that are different colors? THAT is surround. Plugging a "surround" headphone into a USB sound card that is faking it is just pure fluff.

Buy a set of good audio monitors. Audio Technica is always my vote. Sennheiser is good option too.

You will NEVER regret buying a good set of headphones. It will change your life man.

Please don't buy anything with a USB card, the word Gaming on it, or an attached mic. You'll be throwing your money away on cheap, bottom of the barrel drivers.

Thank you for the answer greens!!
I was thinking of buying Logitech G430 which has both usb and 3.5mm ... If i understood you correctly... I shouldn't buy them... Should i go with cheaper and not necessary "Surround" headset? (I am only interested using them in games... not music etc..i have speakers for that)

There is no such thing as surround headphones, its physically impossible. You have two ears. You can tell when something is in front of you, flying by you, all that, with just two ears. You only need two speakers for this, your BRAIN does the surround sound thing, not the speakers. Having 5 or 7 tiny tiny crappy speakers packed in an ear cup does NOTHING to simulate surround sound what so ever.

Surround sound headphones is the biggest lie in the industry.
