I have a gaming pc which i would like to upgrade for christmas the current parts are
fx 6300
8gb ddr3 ram
r7 370 2gb xfx
stock cooler and stock clock speeds
gigabyte 78lmt-usb3
case : https://www.amazon.co.uk/CiT-Vanquish-Gaming-Toolless-Red/dp/B00MNIGFB0/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1475603821&sr=1-5&keywords=cit+case

128 gb samsung ssd
1tb hard drive

i was thinking of gettin the rx 480 or gtx 1060 and then purchasing a new cooler and overclocking my cpu would that be a good idea considering my current build i wouldn't like to get a new cpu as i feel that will be a bigger job, also i have been finding it dificult gettting a good cpu cooler that fits in my case for about £25

Thanks
Kareem

Don't know how you are planning your budget but seriously if possible I would recommend saving a good amount and going for Intel Lineup. Because you cannot do much with that setup no-matter how hard you push it. If you are not able to push your budget limitations the the best you can do is getting RX480. To some extent it will be bottlenecked but as I said there is not much you can do about it.

cooler £25
gpu around £200
so all the upgrades around 200-250 and i would appreciate it if you could go on the uk sites not us ones and use a converter as uk products have to pay more tax:(

The fx 6300 would be bottle necking either of the cards.
Best thing to do get a rx 480 now as its cheap, and gives the same experince as the gtx 1060 and save $$ later on and add a skylake or a AMD zen CPU when they come out, instead of overclocking the CPU as it just wont do much of an improvement in games

i foound a 1060 for the same price

would an fx 8350 be good or better to wait for the zen and would i need a new mobo fir the zen

Upgrading to an 8350 would not benefit much, and it's a dead platform you shouldn't be wasting money on.

Zen will be next year. If the GPU can let you hold off till then (with the bottleneck), then save until Zen, and make a decision on whether it's good enough or upgrade to intel. Either way you will need a new CPU/Motherboard/RAM plus, if you don't have a retail copy of Windows, a new OS. Probably also a new PSU.

Hope that helps.

Do not waste the money on an 8350, gaming wise your 6300 will perform just as well. Also that low end motherboard you have will not properly handle it.

Despite his assertion about there being a bottleneck, its very minor. You can get either card and expect great playable performance at 1080p with your current CPU. If you find playability issues in your games, then maybe its time to consider and upgrade, but I doubt you will.

The link of the gtx 1060 you gave is the 3gb model with 100 less cuda cores than the actual gtx 1060 6gb. It Performs much closer to a RX 470, and a rx 480 would defiantly be better

Both perform identically, but the rx 480 8gb has a slight lead, but 99% of the time you wont notice the difference between them(unless you are playing fallout 4 with 200 mods and enbs lol)
the sapphire model imo is the best

How long will the card last until I'm looking for an upgrade because it can't play games?

In a few months Intel's Kaby lake would be coming out, i'd recommend getting a i3 or and i5 from their line up.
And if you can live with the performance you'r getting better wait up till Zen's launch, i'd recommend to do that

Depends on your budget. Minimum requirement is of i3-6100. If your budget allows then getting i5-6500 will be great. But by the time you upgrade(which is probably next year) new Kaby Lake lineup will launch. Get a processor form that lineup and you will get a big performance boost over your present setup.
