New 900-1000€ PC (not for gaming)

Hi, I need some judge about the components that I'd like to use for my new PC.

As now, I’ve got only a laptop and, when I’m at home, I usually plug it into an external monitor (24-inch Dell U2415). I’d like to build a proper desktop PC and use the laptop only for travel purposes.

Those are my needs:
I use a lot the browser, Photoshop (for editing photos), MS Office, AutoCAD (usually in 2D applications with some raster images). I plan for sure to start using Android Studio for building mobile apps and to start coding a little bit general. Maybe in the future I will try some 3D modelling software and games (but I don’t think I will become a crazy gamer); I would like to have a snappy machine and in some way to be “future proof”.
Budget:
Less than 1000€ (900€ is better)

According to my needs, what do you think about this configuration?

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-6600, 228€
Cooling: Built in
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR4, 3000 MHz, CL15, 86€
Case: Corsair Carbide Spec-Alpha, 93€
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3-EU, 148€
PSU: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold, 112€
Storage: SanDisk SSD Ultra II, 240GB, Purchased
Graphics: Gigabyte GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 3G, 238€

I don’t care about spending let’s say 20€ more on piece if the brand is better; the idea is to stick with Corsair and Gigabyte. All the prices in the list are from Amazon Italy.

Thanks a lot!

If you're not going to game, wait for the 1050/1050Ti that will come in maybe 2-3 weeks if you're in no rush. I would also recommend an aftermarket cooler because you're going to do heavy workloads, might not feel like needed because you're not overclocking but your CPU will feel way better in the length if it has to work hard from doing CAD and so on, not sure what exactly but aftermarket cooler is always better. Also I would recommend maybe looking into a less overkill PSU, 550W 80+ Gold will 100% do it unless you're planning on adding another GPU in the future.

And the i7k is ~€100 more, so around the top end of your build budget.

A great build for your needs while keeping the Corsair and Gigabyte desire.

It's pricy but with it you get much better performing PC which fully supports overclocking (CPU, GPU and RAM).

Here's also a bench between your current setup and my suggested one. For your needs, the "Work" criteria should be as high as possible.

Userbenchmark PC Build Comparison
Baseline Bench: Game 77%, Desk 71%, Work 46%
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 €196
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060-3GB €178
SSD: SanDisk Ultra II 240GB €71
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB €71
MBD: Gigabyte Z170X-GAMING 3 €115
Total: €631

Alternative Bench: Game 84%, Desk 82%, Work 61%
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K €274
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB €222
SSD: SanDisk Ultra II 240GB €71
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB €71
MBD: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P €89
Total: €728

There is no need for such an expensive PSU, getting a cheaper PSU will require you to put more money towards for example the processor you could get an i7 6700 instead of i5 6600 for example. The PSU I selected is semi modular and is more than enough for an i7 6700+gtx 1060. The price of this pc is only 830€, you can even get a gtx 1070 instead 1060 for it which will only cost 1015€. @aecus: Not only your build is ~20% overbudget, you've also operated under a false assumption that PCPartPicker provides both accurate and up to date info on pricing/availability.

The Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P is €116,06 + €5,00 Shipping = €121.06 (+€5).
The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 Windforce OC 6G is €286,80 + €7,99 Shipping = €294.79 (+€8.67).
The Corsair Spec-Alpha CC-9011083-WW is €89,60 w/Free Shipping. (+€10.04)

And you can find the RMx for cheaper than what the listed price on PPP, i.e. the 550W for €101.48 which would have been sufficient for non-SLI/CF build while the 650W is €112.07.

People! PCPartPicker is a starting point, not the alpha-and-omega in recommending build.

@hdgaming: neither of your build include the cost of the PSU which is another €74,98.

i7 6700 is €305,00 + €2,90 (+€2.9)
Gigabyte B150M-DS3H is €80,32 (+€6.27)

Total cost of build 1: €915.01
Total cost of build 2: €1098.88

Yes, my build is over the budget but it's only a suggestion about parts. From where and in what condition the OP decides to get his parts (new/used, local store/online) is up to him to decide.

As far as PSU goes, 550W is enough for non-SLI/CF but if you throw the OC into the mix then atleast i would feel safer if PSU is atleast 650W.

You know...
i7 6700k OC: ~120W
GTX 1060: ~140W (6GB version; 3GB version should consume less)
MB: 40W max
2xDDR4 DIMMs: 6W
1xSSD+1xHDD: ~10W
2xfans: ~3W

Sum: 319W or 58% capacity of a 550W PSU. Even accounting for momentarily spike with 50% increases in power consumption, it would still be less than what a good 550W can deliver.

When you SLI the GTX 1070 (~200W each, totaling 579W) then a 650W would be the minimum.

Thanks for all the answers!

I updated the built, switching from Gigabyte to Asus and changing other pieces. I don't plan to overclock so no 6600k or i7. Since I've got to sell some stuff to get the money (10-15 days), I can further refine the list!

Do you think that is worth investing on a better Wi-Fi card or I can choose the basic listed above?

As far as Z-series MoBo goes, it's for overclocking and best used with K-series CPU. Since you prefer non-K CPU, there's basically no point in getting Z-series MoBo. H-series MoBo will do just fine. It's also cheaper.
