Hey guys,

My current build is:

intel i7 4770k
Zotac GeForce GTX 780
Kingston Hyper-X SSD 240GB
Seagate Gate 2TB HDD
GEIL POTENZA 16GB DDR3 (2 x 8gb)
ASUS Z87- PRO
AOC 24" (G2460PQU) 144hz
600w OCZ SXS2

I've got some cash to spend on a new GFX card and i wanted to go for a 1080 as in a year or so i'll look at a getting a 4k display.

I've looked at OC/Scan/Ebuyer and some other sites and there is a wide variety.

I understand that the chip is the same across all cards but the actual card differs which can affect clock speed etc - so my question is when:

When am looking at the different GTX 1080s what should i be looking for in terms of the difference and whats actually worth the cash.

Cheers

(ps budget is around £650)

Solution
They are all basically the same, the boost speed gives an indication of the top clock speed, BUT they will all be within 5% of each other AND that will require maybe a 20% swing in costs.

That's without other concerns such as noise etc. Read one of the later reviews to see comparisons against other cards (like this one http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/94100-palit-geforce-gtx-1080-gamerock-premium-edition/?page=9 )

As you can see not a lot of difference. The question is what is worth the cash to you. Personally i'd buy the cheapest, and OC it and know that i've £200 in my pocket and something that is within a frame or 2 of the most expensive.

I am not an expert in 1080's but I think there is alot of videos on youtube that shows you benchmark on the best bang for the buck 1080 and compare it to other OC's with Price/Performance.

Hey thanks for the response.

Your quite right there is but its based on prices at the time etc.

So is the difference between a £550 and a £800 1080 that little ?

If you OC the £550 even more, yes. But this will generate more heat.

Stick with what you got. When you do go 4k then get the GPU. The 1080 will be a lot cheaper in a year. Right now it is $750, next Oct. the same GPU will be $450. Wait until you get the monitor to get the GPU. High end GPUs drop in price fast. I know I bought a 980ti last October. The same will happen to the price of the 1080.
