Dear all,

I recently bought an 950 EVO and wish to make it my primary OS-drive.

It fits my motherboard but I heard lots of people have issues actually installing Windows on it due wrong BIOS settings.

What do I need to set in BIOS in order to get my M.2 working and function to clean install Windows 10 onto it?

Motherboard I got is ASUS Z170-A with latest BIOS (flashed it a week ago)
I'll use an official Windows 10 bootable stick I purchased a year ago.

Solution
It should just work straight away without any issues. The SSD should show up as a place to install Windows when you are running the installer.

You should be able to install Windows 10 just fine from the looks of it.
Only thing I can say is recreate the Windows 10 Install disk, You will save a few hours of time if you do.

Hi Oliver.

Well basically you should be able to run Windows 10 off of that SSD with that mobo. Actually I'd advise you to read the comments from that thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2866750/950-pro-512-ssd-mbr-windows-install-gpt.html. The last post has the instruction on how to setup your BIOS/UEFI.

edit: Oops, didn't realize that another answer has been posted while I was typing. :)

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Why a few hours? What's the difference?

Without changing any BIOS settings?
Just plug & play, literally?

Don't have to download as many updates?

I don't really care about updates, though.
I care about having my M.2 work :p

So is it plug and play or do I need to set some things in BIOS?

Give it a try as a plug and play, as @Kurz suggested, but if for some reason you have any issues whatsoever, you can give it a go with the suggestions from the thread I've linked in my previous post.

Don't underestimate OS update. Very often they fill up security holes, or improve a certain service, or compatibility. I'd strongly suggest that you keep up to date with the Windows updates.

Here's a detailed tutorial on how to make a clean install of Win 10 in case you need it: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

What I meant with "not care about updates" it's not really related to my topic, although I always update my PC at home once the update is out.
What I meant was that all I care about is the M.2 :)

I'll probably try it tonight, when I finally got time to do so
