DNS Server is not responding and sometimes resetting the Wifi adapter in troubleshooter gives a temp fix

A few weeks ago I moved into my new house for Uni and where at home i would usually have a Ethernet cable I am no longer able to use it here and have been using wireless.

However, when I had finished connecting I had the problem stating The DNS server is not responding: Your computer is trying to use a DNS server that is incorrect or doesn't exist. At first it was constant, but at this moment in time it seems to be almost random sometimes I will be able to go online for long amounts of time other times it will go on and off and other times i will not be able to connect for hours. This is a list of the solutions I have tried to no avail:

- Flushing and resetting the IP and dns through Cmd
- all the netsh resets
- DNS not responding fixer
- safe mode with networking did not allow me to connect to the internet
- manually setting the dns adress on both my pc and my router
- resetting the TCP/IP
- running virus scanners and removing virus'
- disabling my firewall
- using different WiFi adaptors

I know this is a problem with my computer because when i can't connect on my pc I can connect on my phone and my laptop.

Recently also when I have troubleshooted the problem when I have noticed the internet go off it will reset the wifi adaptor which will cause the internet to return but usually for a short amount of time (5mins -1hour) with the message in troubleshooter being "Reset the default gateway - Fixed"

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated with this, thanks in advance.

I've tried using googles DNS servers and the ones suggested on other solutions for my problem and have had the same outcome.

"Uni" being University - just to be sure.....

Is anyone else in your house having similar problems? How many people live there? Any other wireless networks around?

Edit: Can you run and post the results of "ipconfig /all"?

Run "tracert" and "pathping" and see if the results provide any insight.

It's not currently disabled but I have tried it being disabled and it has not given any results.

Yep University, living with 4 other people who have all said they have had no problems and my phone and laptop work fine so I know its something to do specifically with my PC. There are other networks around but none I could connect to.

Your DNS Servers are listed as your local gateway and an Opal Telecom server in the UK. Are you in the UK?

What are the DNS servers set to on your router? On your PC, are you set to obtain DNS servers automatically, or do you have them set manually? Somewhere, these DNS servers are set incorrectly.

Im in the UK yes.

My Routers DNS is set to 192.168.1.1 and a secondary DNS of 62.24.243.2, both of these I have tried as the manual DNS for my adaptor but did not work. I have tried both automatically and manually and whichever one I set it to I get the same outcome.

The router's IP is 192.168.1.1, so setting it as it's own DNS server is incorrect- sometimes it might use the secondary DNS address, other times maybe not. Your router should have two legitimate DNS server IDs specified, such as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google), or alternatively two DNS servers provided by your ISP.

A few hours ago I changed my router setting so that the first dns was 62.24.128.195 which was provided by the ISP and the second one 62.24.243.2 which was also provided by the ISP yet I have still had the same issue, also tried using the Google DNS servers and the same thing happened.

Maybe go back a couple of steps:

Try using a USB extension cable between your computer and th USB adapter. That will permit you to move the wireless adapter up and about - maybe improve signal reception some.

You might also go back in and check the wireless adapter settings. If "auto negoiate" try manual wireless configuration. Or vice versa.

Used a USB extension cable placed in different places around, didn't change my issue, also tried manual wireless configuration and auto still the same outcome.

Also changed between Automatically configured DNS server and manually configured and didn't change a thing either.

Still the only thing that will bring my internet back working is troubleshooting when its down and it will reset the wifi adapter bring the message "Reset the default gateway - Fixed" and it can stay up from anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours.

Apologies: Should have been clearer with respect to "You might also go back in and check the wireless adapter settings. If "auto negoiate" try manual wireless configuration. Or vice versa."

I meant within the wireless adapter settings: what 802.__ standard is being established during handshake? Some devices do not play well together so if you manually set the wireless adapter to match the router then that may help.

Apologies for not responding recently been very focused on university work that I havn't been on my computer in a while and forgot all about this thread.

Anyway, come back and I still have the same issue it has yet to go away. I have tried manually setting my adapter to 802.11n, 802.11g 802.11b 802.11a and combinations of them all and so on and nothing changed my issue.

I have also since used driver easy to update any drivers on my PC and I have manually made sure my Wifi drivers were up to date, which still did not stop my issue.

One piece of information that may or may not be relevant is that at the start of September I got a new Motherboard and Processor and never had any problems with Wifi before then, although the last time I used WIfi prior to the new parts would have been around February this year.
