GTX 660Ti. Display driver crashes unless it´s underclocked

Hello people, i´ve had this GPU for 4 years or so, and it always crashed when I played heavy games, tried rollbacking drivers, using the beta versions, etc. And nothing worked. At first (maybe because of the games i played back then?) i would receive the error popup from the Nvidia Control Panel saying the display driver .exe (cant remember it exactly) had stopped working.
Nowadays, it just freezes the computer and I have to reset it by the case´s button. Sound still plays behind, but it doesn´t respond to anything, not Ctrl+alt+del, not WindowsKey, NOTHING.

So, i ended up trying to underclock the GPU a lil, which worked! YAY FOR ME!. No more crashes, but it´s a pity to have such a good GPU and limit it´s power, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it with something else. The cables are organized, so it´s not a heat thing (although I will check temps while playing CS GO while underclocked (not risking losing a competitive match because of a freeze lol).

Thanks in advance!

Solution
My Asus 660 Ti tops out at 1202 MHz with less then 70°C which is the temperature point where the card starts lowering it's boost clock.
The chip should be pretty safe with your 82°C start worrying when you reach 95°C

sounds like either a temp issue or a power supply issue

without actually monitoring temps how can you say its not a heat thing?

PSU is a 650W CoolerMaster Silent
I did check temps back then but they didn´t seem too bad, at what temperature would it shutdown for protection? To check again if it reaches it

It is a temperature problem, how do i fix it? What voltage / clock setup is good for this GTX 660 Ti Zotac AMP! if at stock it overheats? At 900mhz core clock it doesnt crash, reaches up to 82 C° gaming
