So I have a quad monitor gaming rig set up right now so I can have netflix, game, stock and a floating monitor I use for random things as needed. The GPU is EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Hybrid (https://goo.gl/RLrMBq) and the monitors are using the HDMI 2.0 and the 3x Display Port 1.2 directly out of the back of the GPU with no adapters or splitters.

The laptop in question is my work laptop its a horrible Lenovo T440 that I would like to dock into the ThinkPad Ultra Dock - 90W US (seen here https://goo.gl/vkdQxF) and be able to utilize both at the same time. My experience with laptop docks is exactly zero and I havent used a physical KVM in half a decade so trying to wrap my head around this problem made it hurt.

Ideally I would like to have my gaming rig up and running and come home and throw the Lenovo on the laptop dock and just have it pop up usable with the same keyboard and mouse as a 5th screen maybe? or even better a 5th screen that also takes over one of my top monitors for a dual screen setup for the laptop and a 3 screen setup for the PC?

Anyways I am open to trying anything I am not sure how much I can install on this work laptop if we go with a software solution so that could be a hitch but money is no object as the company is getting the tab so go crazy if you need to!

If I understand you correctly you're looking for a USB switch. It's used to connect one set of peripherals and multiple PC's. In your case, laptop and your rig. And you can connect one of your monitors to the laptop.

Ok from the looks of this a USB Switch is basically a mechanical KVM without the V portion? This is a solution but its rather clunky as I will have to dock the laptop, hit the button to swap the peripherals and then either swap the video cable from tower to dock or have a second cable and swap inputs. This is all on top of the fact that I will not be able to use the Keyboard and Mouse simultaneously which is my desire if possible. I am guessing this will be a physical and software solution combined into one if someone can take a go at it again to see if we cant get closer.

Thanks for the solution though I will be looking at these USB Switches now that I know they are a thing for future projects.
