My PCIe x16 slot doesn't work, but should I use a x1 with adapter?

Weird, but no. An x1 adapter would limit the GPU to about 6% of its theoretical bandwidth. In practice you can reduce it to about 25%, but below that you suffer performance issues. This would cause a lot of performance loss. If your board's PCIe slot is bad then you should get a board with a good PCIe slot, hopefully via RMA at no cost to you.

I have an R7 250, but I only play games like TF2 and Tropico 4, which is enough for my needs. I also got my graphics card 3 months after I got my computer from Ebay, so there's no warranty available anymore. Thanks for the help, though.
