I need to upgrade my BIOS beyone what HP has provided. I've got an HP Pavilion HPE (h8-1220) with an M3970AM-HP (Angelica2) motherboard.

I've replaced the PSU with an EVGA600w unit. I've replaced all of the hard drives. I now have 3 3TB drives in it and I'm running Linux Mint 18.

I need to upgrade the GPU. I'd like to install a Zotac GEFORCE GTX 750ti, but I don't think my BIOS will support it. (I believe I'm at version 7.13.)

What will happen if I upgrade the BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer instead of HP?

Where are you proposing finding BIOS updates?

That board model is made specifically for HP (AFAIK), meaning the BIOS updates should only be available via HP...

There are not using 'off the shelf' components where there would be a motherboard manufacturer (ASUS, MSI etc) - I don't believe anybody is providing *official* support for those boards any longer.

The Sapphire Nitro AMD Radeon RX 460 card doesn't work. Tells me there is no video output and monitor goes into standby. I have the power cable plugged into the video card and made sure the card is fully seated.
