Hi everyone,

Currently I have an Asus H81M-E motherboard (which is only compatible with ddr3 ram) and one Avexir 8GB stick. Recently, my programs have been crashing due to full ram capacity, so my question is; Do I buy a new motherboard and buy a 16GB stick of DDR4 ram with it, OR do I keep my current motherboard and buy another 8GB DDR3 stick? (I have a custom pc so I can change my motherboard) I have an Intel i7 4790 LGA1150.

I know that the obvious option would to buy a new motherboard, but I don't have much money to splash out on my computer - money wise I would like to just get a new DDR3 stick, but I'm not sure if it will last in the long run and if it is better value for money to get a new motherboard and DDR4 ram.

Also, I know this is probably very confusing, but if anyone can understand...help!

Thanks,
Jason

Solution
DDR4 in not compatible with the 4790 processor, you're limited to DDR3. Just add another stick of RAM until you are ready to upgrade the CPU/motherboard. Be advised that adding another stick of RAM isn't guaranteed to work as miss matched RAM may not work together. A safer bet is to sell the existing stick and buy a kit of RAM.
