HI i'm super tails and looking for budget power supply for gaming. Not only that, but my pre-built PC's power supply isn't good enough for powering a GTX 1060 that i'm going to get in 2017. Any thing that is high as $60 USD is alright. I'm very strict on power supply. i don't want one to fail less then 3 years.

Solution

It not necessary with all psu's,but only with ones not haswell ready. The system might go into such deep sleep that it doesn't draw alot of power in which case the not haswell ready psu's under voltage protection (i think this one) might get into action and the pc might shut off.

The Corsair CX550M linked by BadActor is a good deal.Even without rebate probably the one to choose under $60 keeping an eye on Haswell compatibility, but the Seasonic M12II 520watt modular one is a fine choice too,has a nice rebate too.

Don't see any mentioning of cpu btw,so which cpu do you use?
If you can use the Mail-in rebate, this Seasonic, semi-modular, 550W gold unit is a no-brainer from Newegg at the moment for $45 ($60 before MIR): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151119&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Sale ends very soon.

Probably worth mentioning that neither of these units are Haswell certified. Both solid units and highly recommended, but if OP is running a Haswell or Skylake CPU, they should make sure that C6/7 sleep states are disabled in the BIOS.

gud point...certainly skipped my mind...

Will it damage PC components/software?
