I'm not a total newbie, but have been out of the loop for a long time. Come to think of it, I was never really in the loop when it comes to PC gaming. I successfully built a system in 2009.

I've been a die hard console gamer, but satellite internet has put a stop to that with frequent 10+GB mandatory updates just to play a new game.

I just want to play modern games. I don't get a massive graphics boner from 60fps at 1080p or whatever at max settings. I just want them to play smoothly at a reasonable resolution. Titles like Forza Horizon, Fallout 4, Far Cry, Dying Light, etc.

Will be running Windows 7 through my 32" TV, much like a console.

What do you guys recommend to do what I want on a budget? APU? Or what CPU/GPU combo?

Thank you for the help.

Really depends how much you want to spend. You can spend around $600USD and get a decent 1080p experience. You will be able to play most games at 60fps high settings. If you want to spend a little less, you can go for a card like the 470, and could play more around medium/low settings 60fps, or high settings 30fps.
