2 days ago when I was playing games, suddenly detection of my HDD is lost so I close the game and went to restart my computer, after restart the boot up take a long time and I was wondering what happen, at first i thought it was caused by my GPU driver because i just update it on the same day. So, I went to unplug my GPU from the PCI-E slot and start up from the MB and the problem still persist (stuck at the Windows 7 Logo screen), I went to check my HDD Sata cable to make sure it was tightly connected and it was, went to check at the BIOS page, it did detect my HGST hard disk (3 years old). My windows OS is actually at my SSD. I tried to unplug the HDD SATA cable from the HDD and boot up and it fixed the problem of boot up.

Long story short, how am I able to recover my data inside the HDD? Because when plugged in my windows are not able to startup anyway to recover the data. And is the HDD at the end of its life or I can still try and reformat and use it?

Last question, how long is HGST HDD warranty?

The you should definitely give it a try with the Ubuntu suggestion. Here's how to make a bootable flash drive with it: https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows (it also has a download link). And your data recovery options expand with data recovery software: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm. But again, the drive has to be recognized by the motherboard for those suggestions to be viable options.

Good luck! Please keep me updated!
Hey there.

If the drive is not recognized by the BIOS as well, it doesn't sound good. A faulty HDD could cause all kind of issues with your system, including boot up problems, even if it's not the OS drive, so that's the reason everything worked OK while you had the drive disconnected from the motherboard.

You should try the HDD with a different SATA port and different SATA cables (both data and power), just to see if anything changes. It would be even better if you could give it a go with a different computer by connecting it either externally or internally, to see if it's recognized at least by the BIOS.

For data recovery I'm afraid you can't do much when the HDD is not detected by the BIOS/motherboard. You could try accessing it via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if that OS will be able to recognize and access the partitions, but chances are pretty slim if the HDD is not detected by the BIOS.
You other option would be a professional solution, such as a data recovery company.

As for the warranty, I'm afraid I can't answer that question. For different manufacturers and different drive models there are different warranty periods. So you'll have to get in touch with the HDD manufacturer's customer support and tell them the model of the drive so that they can check it for you.

Hope that helps.

Actually, the BIOS did recognize the HDD sometimes, I did try swap SATA cable but did not try swapping the power cable yet, might try that later
