Hello!

I plan to reinstall my computer. I thought it would be good to upgrade the SSD firmware before that.

I have a Samsung 840 EVO (120Gb) SSD with EXT0BB6Q firmware.
I've read some articles about that, but it is not clear for me how to do this. ,

Do I need to run the Performance Restoration Tool before (v1.1)? Or just install Magician, and do the update from there?

I have an Asus H87-pro motherboard with Intel AHCI driver installed and Windows 7.

Thank you for your help! :)

And what is this Performance Restoration Tool for?
Will the latest firmware function properly, without running this Restoration before the update?

Thank you for your help! :)

That tool was a one time release before Samsung put out the Magician software that does all of the same stuff and more. You do not need to run that tool before downloading the latest Magician software. Once you get the new Magician installed, update the firmware, the run the performance optimization.

You can also then check with the OS Optimization to insure that your computer settings are best for an SSD.
