WNR1000 V3 Wired is too slow

My ISP provides me with 100mbit/10mbit. I connected the modem directly to the computer wired, bypassing the router and got the speed that was promised me.

But when I connect it to my computer through the router I only get 8mbit download and around 5 mbit upload.

That router can't support 100Mbit WAN speed. It only has 100Mbit ports, so the top end would be 85Mbit. First guess is that you might have an MTU size problem which would slow things a lot. See PDF page 74 -- http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNR1000V3/WNR1000v3h2_UM_21OCT2010.pdf and set your MTU to 1436. See if that gets you closer to 85Mbit -- remember many download dialogs are in MB (bytes) so if you get 10 - 11MBs you are about right.

Well, seems like nothing changed. I still get the same speed which is 4 mbit...

OK, it was worth a shot. Reset the MTU to the previous setting. I think the next thing would be to see if you have packet loss. Try a ping -n 100 -l 1450 -f 8.8.8.8 (This says ping 100 times with a data size of 1450 bytes and don't allow fragmentation to Google's DNS) see if you have packet loss...
If you do have packet loss, then try pinging your router the same way

What speed does Windows say your ethernet is connected? 100Mbit full duplex?

Well, the only thing that ping says is "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set." and
Packetn sent: 100
Packet revieved: 1
Packet lost: 99

When I right click on my Local Area Connection thingy and click status, it says Speed: 100.0mbps

Ah.... So the MTU does need to be smaller. OK.. So retry the ping with 1400 and move up by 10 until you get the fragment problem. Go back to the last successful ping and start increasing by 1. When it fails, your MTU is the last successful value.

Changed my MTU to 1500 and tried.
Everything above 1472 gave me fragment issue. But 1472 worked fine, should I change my MTU to 1472 now?

Changed my MTU to 1472 and tried to ping with -n 100 -l 1472 -f 8.8.8.8 but got the fragment issue again, changing back the MTU to 1500 back again.

Was looking around the router login thingy and saw this;
A new version has been found. Do You want to upgrade to the new version now?
Current Firmware Version 1.0.2.26
New Firmware Version 1.0.2.68_60.0.93

Should I upgrade?
