The Radeon 5770 is in a 2012 Mac Pro computer from Apple. The HDMI monitor is model 12757fh from AOC. The adaptor, cable and monitor all work perfectly when connected to a new Mac Mini, but the monitor cannot recognize the signal from the Mac Pro. It's getting a signal, it just cannot deal with it. A question-mark keeps flashing on the screen.

The computer just arrived yesterday. I have never seen it run. I imagine it is in a startup screen as you would get if it were new, not into the main interface. The computer responds normally to key commands, but I cannot get anything to show up on the screen.

I get the same result when trying mini-displayport to vga. I have both kinds of adapters. I think mdp to hdmi is passive.

I am going taking the computer to the store where my plan is to try things until I get something that works.

I don't know what is most likely to work. I guess a display port monitor is the best bet, I really don't know.

Any information you can share would be very much appreciated.

Solution
It could be something as simple as the Mac's auto-detect is "confused" by the MDP and is trying to display the wrong resolution or refresh rate. Won't be able to do anything until you get a monitor that is compatible "out-of-the-box" so that you can actually see what's going on.

Sorry I don't have any help but that's the information I can share on the subject :)
