Hello. I got an Asus GTX 1060 Dual 6OG recently but the fans are pretty loud and the heatsink is surprisingly small, leading me to get temps of around 80-81°C whenever gaming on extended periods.

Thus, I have set out on a quest to replace the crappy cooler that came with my 1060 with some better, custom cooler. Problem is, I don't know where to start and I have a few limitations.

Firstly, my case is kind of small so I am limited to a maximum of around 250mm length for the cooler. I am also on a budget of around $100.

From what I've seen, there are two options: the EVGA GTX Hybrid which would be busting my budget (but I can do it). I just have no idea how to install that. The other options are custom air coolers, but all of the ones I've found are either plain bad or too lengthy for my case.

EDIT: I've managed to remove the 2.5" drive bay. Now I've two options in terms of size:
~330mm x 32mm OR 252mm x 120mm.

If anyone could point me to a good cooling solution, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Well, the cooler isn't for just the GPU (Processor) so I think you may have overlooked a few things.

Have you found somewhere to buy the Hybrid cooler without buying a card? That would be something a lot of people would be interested in. EVGA tells me they aren't selling them separately (at least not yet) and that they only fit on their custom PCBs

Anyhow, if your thinking is that all NVidia GPUs have some kind of "standard" in the way the coolers are mounted to the PCBs then I guess you can just get any cooler for any NVidia GPU that you like. Maybe just check online to see what people are getting rid of so that you can keep the price down :)

Happy Zip-tying

You mention the EVGA GTX Hybrid. Are you considering getting this type of GPU? A 1070 or 1080 which are the only cards that come with the Hybrid Cooler.

If you are talking about just the cooler, I don't think it's available to purchase unless it's on one of the GPU that come with it. Also there would be a problem with mounting it. The ASUS 1060 Dual is on a custom PCB. So are the EVGA Hybrids and I doubt they will be compatible for this reason alone.

The 1060s just came out, might be another few weeks (or months) before there are replacement coolers from alternate vendors and then you'll need one that fits the custom PCB of the ASUS 1060 Dual

I was talking about just the cooler, and I'm pretty much sure it does fit.
otherwise I'll just use zipties

I've tried fitting the cooler from my old Gainward Phantom GTX 760 but the fan cable isn't long enough, however from that experience I can confirm that the GTX Hybrid will fit as it has the four bottom screws that have become standard on nvidia cards and that my 1060 does have.

Thanks! For the standalone hybrid cooler, just google "gtx hybrid cooler" and you'll get a myriad of websites selling the standalone cooler. Do you know anywhere that I can find people selling standalone coolers they want to get rid of? Thanks!

Wow! I just spoke with EVGA customer support on Monday... wow. I guess even the best customer support in the industry will still make mistakes from time to time ;) That is AWESOME that they are available.Too bad they don't fit the FTW models :'(

Since you've found out that all NVidia GPUs have the same mounting points I guess it doesn't matter that they offer a compatibility list or that there are several models of GTX Hybrid cooler for many different generations of GPUs

I would check E-bay and amazon for people selling used. Tom's has a classified forum where you can (read the rules in the sticky posts and -> ) ask if anyone has one they don't want/need and are willing to sell (maybe trade). I'm sure there are other tech sites that have a kind of "Buy/Sell/Trade" forums. Sorry I don't know any specific ones because I won't buy used or refurb - been burned too many times.
