I'm testing a mobo, well actually the cpu as well. AMD A10 6700 3.7 in an ASUS board.
I bought a new cpu to try. The fan pops on and everything stops immediately when you boot. Put the old CPU back in and it will boot, at least back to what the original prob was.

What am I missing?

you missing the full detail spec on the system, the only thing we know is a A10 6700 and a ASUS brand mobo, and you don't even tell us the model
Full specs to help others to help you in troubleshooting.

You allude to an existing problem but don't mention it. What precisely was the problem which led you to obtaining another CPU?

It's possible the new CPU isn't supported by the motherboard, but without specs that is just speculation; and it won't solve the existing and underlying problem you have.
