Would changing motherboard involve changing hard drive. Would my GTX 960 be compatible with the list you made (lower price list)

My huge list of questions:

12gb or 16gb ram?

I've done a bad OC before, it resulted in a BSOD and ever since the bad OC (I resetted my OC after BSOD) my computer has to be switched on/off twice in the morning to make it switch on because when I wake up in the morning and off I go to switch the computer on, when I do it switches on very fast then black screens not even keyboard lights will work. I have to restart via power button for it to switch on normally. Does this mean I have perm damage to motherboard and where else could this damage have went?

I know it sounds as if im lazy and I'm all like I don't want to do it myself but in reality I am not confident enough to pick PC parts, what if they aren't going to work together? Especially considering that I've made so many mistakes in the past.
