Hey guys,

I have an ASUS P8Z68-V motherboard. I want to buy a Samsung 960 EVO PCI-E M2 SSD, when it comes available. I want to use it as a project disk for video editing purposes.
Because my motherboard does not have a m2 slot i will be using a pci-e to m2 adapter.

can you guys give me an indication of the expected speed of this drive in PCIe 2.0?
I know its max bandwith is 16 GB/s but i also use one pci-e videocard . I 've red about sharing the speed with other pci-e cards and maybe sata drives?
Also red about pci-e lanes. But i dont fully understand what to expect in real life.
With only half the bandwith of 8 GB/s (still resulting in 1000 MB/s) i would be a happy customer.

I could really use the extra speed from an pci-e SSD so i want to avoid a Sata SSD at this moment.

what do you guys think?

thnx in advance,

Mark

I honestly don't think the extra cost of the PCI-E drive and the required adapter would actually be worth it, when paired with the existing Z68 board and CPU.

Would it be 'faster' than a SATA SSD? Probably
Enough faster to justify the extra cost? Probably not.

I just went through this investigation for my current Z77 system, and, for me, it was so not worth it.
And my system already has 4 x SSDs.

I'd wait until you upgrade the whole thing to fully take advantage of a PCI-E drive.

Thnx for the reply!

I found more info on this matter in this youtube video.

The conclusion is besides the extra costs its a huge improvement over sata SSD. (for video editing)
