I'm, thinking about taking the hard drive out and simply putting it into my computer, would I suffer any file loss or do I need to reformat the drive?

Hi there Jordan Tran,

Are you facing some issues with your external device?

USAFRet is totally right. :)
Taking the drive out of the enclosure is not really advisable. If you've decided to do it anyway, you really need to back up the data stored on the drive.

As USAFRet said, the drive:
- Is most probably hardware encrypted.
- Could have proprietary connectors. In that case, you will not be able to attach it internally.

Even if you manage to connect the drive, you will need to reformat it, so you can remove the encryption. Once again, just back up your data.

Apart from that, you will void the warranty in case it is still under any.

Some externals have the USB-SATA bridge directly on the PCB.
Some externals have some sort of onboard encryption, requiring that specific PCB.
Some have none of that, and it is just a regular drive.

Suggest you make a known good copy of that data before it becomes unusable.
