I have a dell xps 15 9550 laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue? My video card is NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 960M if that matters? I connect hdmi from the laptop to the external monitor

Try changing the resolution through NV control panel? You could just change it through right click on the desktop, then display settings and pick your laptop screen and advanced settings will let you change your resolution on just one screen. Both should work, the NV control panel will let you select either screen to change resolution too.

My laptop is windows 10 by the way. Its not windows 7. With windows 7, i could do trial and error but with 10, its very confusing.

I have my laptop set up like this. My 24' 1920x1200 monitor is my main screen. My dell xps laptop is on the left side of my desk, its 1920x1080 resolution. Basically everything i want opens up on my main screen. I do drag some windows to the left... which goes to the laptop screen if that makes sense.

First off, when there is monitor 1 and monitor 2... it should be monitor 1 on the rectangle then 2 right? Basically i have these on extend these displays.

okay this is what i did. On the customize your display, the change the size of text, apps and other items.... i moved it all the way left to 100 percent. It was at either 125 or 150 percent. Now the screen shows 1920x1080 on the laptop screen. So this is how its suppose to be fixed? Moving it to the minimum which is 100 percent? Again this is something i never seen before as this is windows 10 and im used to windows 7.

Click identify when you have the display settings page open, it's one of the options below if it doesn't list the name of each display. It will put up the number on each screen so you can change accordingly.
