i originally bought 2 4GB sticks of the ripjaws kit a year ago and it was 80 dollars. Now, every other kit of ram that I have come across has dropped in price except that one, which has actually risen

I'm hoping you're in AUS, because if you're in the US that's a ripoff.
At that stage you're probably best to get a 2x8GB kit for around $100 AUD.

sadly I'm in the US, but whenever I bought the RAM it was like the median price. It might have even been more than a year ago.
