How much more performance will I get out of this Sapphire RX480 over my MSI R9 280x, Will the upgrade be worth it?

With Battlefield 1 and a few other titles around the corner, Id like to upgrade my MSI R9 280x, However, Only have the budget of around £200 give or take.

Ive been looking at the Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ OC Graphics card, I can get one for exactly 200 GBP, And it'll include a BF1 Deluxe Edition upgrade (Not the game) which Im not too bothered about.

Question is, Am I going to get much more performance out of the RX480 over my current MSI R9 280x? Will the performance boost be worth £200 or should I look at another card for around the same price?

CPU -
i5 4670k

RX480 looks to be only one tier higher in performance on tom's graphics hierarchy chart.
Possibly more for a highly overclocked card.
Likely not sufficient increase; they suggest three tiers or you may be disappointed.

I think you should be looking for a GTX1060 at least.

Your i5-4670K is excellent and should be able to drive any card you want.
Have you overclocked it?
You should.

Thanks for the reply. Guess Ill pass on the 480 in that case.

I've looked on Scan at 1060's, And I found a huge range of them, The differences I dont understand however I saw the PALIT NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB for only £190, which is in my price range and is £10 cheaper than the 480 too, Would this be a better investment? I would have to assume that this card will come with NVidia Shadowplay which would also be a huge bonus as I like recording a little bit of Gameplay.

As for overclocking, I'm not really too great with PC's as you can most likely tell, I dont think it'd end too well >)

edit ; Also found an MSI Version of the card for the same price.

If it helps, I play in 1080p.

I guess the main question here is, do you actually need a GPU upgrade?

While the RX480 is newer, more efficient & a better performer, the R9 280X is no slouch either..... and will still be capable for some time to come.

Personally, I wouldn't upgrade from a 280X to a 480 - there's benefits & improvements, but I don't see 200GBP worth IMO.

Well, I'll only be playing Battlefield 1 for a while now, And during the Beta I was only getting around 35-40 FPS which felt sluggish for an FPS. Not sure if it was just because its the Beta/alpha, But I dont think I could be content with 40 FPS when the game releases fully, Ideally, I'd prefer over 60 with at least high settings. So I had figured it was time for a new card... I've always wanted an upgrade regardless, Preferably to a card that supports Nvidia Shadowplay, But thats not a must.

Decided that I wont be purchasing the 480 Now since You and Geofelt said I won't be getting much more performance, Certainly not £200 worth. I guess I'm just in need of help in finding a suitable replacement for The 280x now.

thanks for the reply

Would I really see that much performance boost from a 6gb card over the 3gb? Whats the reasoning? I can pick up a 1060 3gb for 180-190, And the lowest I can get a 6gb for is 230. I know it's only 40-50 difference, But my budget was really only around 200 seeing as its Christmas. If the reasoning for getting the 6GB is big, Ill go ahead, Make the leap and purchase the 6GB.

Thanks
