Hello all,

I am looking for some information regarding the use of silver conductive pens like CircuitWriter and so forth. I have a small pcb with some damaged traces that are very close to each other. I want to patch the board with this conductive pen until I can get the necessary parts closer to Christmas. There was a review on Amazon from a guy who was describing how to make super tiny traces using pieces of tape to outline the work area and remove them to reveal nice tiny traces. That was 5 years ago and he hasn't responded to the one comment left for him.

I would like to use a piece of scotch tape to cover the damaged area in question. Then use an xacto blade to cut the shape of the traces out and peel the cut shape of tape away. leaving a stencil basically. Then I plan to cover the area in a layer of the silver and remove the tape at the correct time to hopefully leave nice thin traces. My question is about the timing. If I remove the tape too early Im afraid the liquid will run and cause a short. Too late and peeling the tape may pull dry flaky chunks of the cured silver substance. Im thinking of waiting until its sort of tacky like when epoxy is allowed to set up before applying.

What do you guys think?

Thanks, -Z

I suppose if I used 2 pieces of tape I could leave the bottom layer as an insulator but this is a vehicle PCB. It will definitely get hot. Im considering using hot glue to cover the area for insulation.

Thoughts?
