Samsung SSD 850 Large Host Writes?

For some reason my SSD is writing a lot and I have no clue why. I only had it for about two months and I have nearly wrote half as much as my friends SSD. Fresh install of windows 10 64bit. Also the sata interface along with AHCI is not detected in the samsung magician software, ive been told it's a windows 10 bug. Any help would be highly appreciated.

With a new install, there are a lot of writes that happen in the first month or two. All the existing Windows updates, installing all your applications, etc, etc.

That will even out after a while.
Also, that amount of writes, 850GB and 418GB, is very low for that number of hours.
For instance, one of my 250GB 840 EVO's has 3.54TB writes, in 18,092 power on hours.
Hey there, krzyimprt.

There are numerous ways to optimize those writes. I'd strongly suggest that you take a look at the tips from this article: https://www.maketecheasier.com/12-things-you-must-do-when-running-a-solid-state-drive-in-windows-7/. Regardless of the fact that it says Win7, those suggestions are still viable for the newer versions as well.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Of course you should backup your important data, just to be on the safe side.
You could try the SSD with a different SATA port and cables to see if the problem still persists.

On the other hand, if this is indeed a Windows bug, then I'd recommend that you check for available OS updates and install them. You could also contact Microsoft's customer support and ask for more info regarding this issue.

By the way, if the first screenshot is from your friend's computer, you might want to tell him/her that it seems like drive Z: might be having issues, just in case has been unnoticed.

Hope that helps. Please keep me posted.

I guess I'll just worrying about it since they come with a 5 year warranty. I was told 20GB/day isn't too bad.

You'd have to go into the hundreds of GB per day, every single day, for a few years, to have any real effect.
