Why is my GTX 1070 overheating?

So I have a GTX 1070 and an AMD FX 9370. When I play a game I overclock the card at 100% GPU utilization and it gets up to 82C when I play. But that's the higher it gets. If I pump the temperature limit it goes up to something like 85C. Is it ok? Is that normal? P.S. I overclock the card with GPU tweak II and I set the fan speed on 100%.

I got a Evga 1070 sc, load 95% gets to 75'c in a tighter Midtower case. Got 1 front fan incoming air and 2 exhaust fans 1 on the back and 1 on the top. Not the best config.

With Vsync on, it gets back down to 65'c. Hope it helps.
I wouldn't willingly push it to far beyond 80c.
80c is fine but don't push it further - adjust your fan curve if you're going to OC.

If your fan curve is set well and your fans are spinning at 100% and its still beyond 80c you probably have an air flow issue in your case.

The thermal limit for the 1070 SERIES IS 94C , i would be careful 85 C is a little to high.

I have a desk and I have put my computer inside of it. There is an opening for cases and I have put it there. It is covered by both right and left and I have an opening on the behind. I have put out some of the case covers that help the airflow but I think that doesn't help because it's inside the desk. Should I put it to an open place?

if you got a ceiling fan in your room, turn it on. air conditioner.... turn it on not enough vents in your case? drill about 50 holes in the side panel near the gpu and cpu or cut some slits near them. should go down like 30c.... the air conditioner might drive your bills up though.

Computer desks with small, enclosures that just fit a tower are great for office computers or low draw devices, not performance minded machines. While you can certainly cram performance equipment in there, you are seeing the direct result of why I would personally recommend against it.

If the environment is otherwise temperature controlled, so the air around the enclosure is cooler than normal, you might get away with it, however, if you're in a home environment where the room is over say 20°C or 68°F, your equipment is starting out warm.

If you want to continue housing the equipment in the enclosed space, I recommend as others have, to modify the enclosed space to facilitate better airflow.

In the long run, it's likely that you will see a diminished lifespan for the hot running equipment, but I'm not sure anybody can accurately quantify by how much.
