8 out of 16 gb used. The rest of it seems to be in the committed category in Task Manager.

I just upgraded my ram from 8 gb to 16 gb. One of my sticks of ram is running at 1600 MHz, while the other is slightly higher at 1866 MHz.
The guy at the store I bought the ram from said that it would just downclock (underclock?) down to the other ram.
I took it home, put the ram in, turned on my computer only to see that the committed section was higher and not the In use or the available.
I am not too happy because I just spent $80 on a stick ram and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
Thanks for helping if you could.

$80 for a single stick of ram? I'd return it... hard, at the guys face.

Did you follow your mobo's instructiosn when installing?

Do you have 4 slots of ram? From the CPU left to right it is usually numbered 3 1 4 2, meaning your RAM should be plugged into the second and fourth slots to run correctly. Sounds like you don't have them in the right slots.

I had this issue once or twice, after a reboot (meaning really shutting down, waiting a few seconds, then powering up again) it's back to normal. or was for me.

I live in Canada so that is probably why the price is so high. Also my computer is pre-built (I know it was a bad idea) so the motherboard is a custom Acer one. The user manual doesn't say anything about installing anything extra so I was pretty lost and just put the stick in the computer. On task manager it still says 1 of 2 slots used but there is 2 sticks of RAM in the computer. I don't know what to do after this and I can't take the ram back because I already opened it :/

That's not true!

What if you opened it up and there was a candy bar or stick of gum? You still couldn't return it? Just tell him it is a bad stick, straight up.

If you only have 2 slots then you can't install it wrong...

If it's a proprietary board you should probably stick with proprietary RAM. Why not buy the stick directly from Acer?

So what do you think would be the problem with the stick not being recognized? And I was not aware you could buy directly from Acer.
