Hey, first time post on Toms Hardware for me so I apologise if this is in the wrong forum.
I currently have a AMD 8150 8core processor with a AM3+ socket, and a ASUS 7770 video card that is in need of desperate upgrading. After countless hours picking a video card to upgrade to I chose an MSI Geforce 1060. The 1060 I chose uses a PCI Express x16 3.0 bus interface. But my current motherboard does not support PCI 3.0. And I have the budget to buy a new motherboard but I can't seem to find one that supports an AM3+ CPU and pci 3.0. Can one of you fellows help me out?

Edit: Some people say that the new gpu will suffer loss of preformence, and some say that it wont. Can I get an explanation for this? Thanks for your time.
Thanks

Your current Motherboard will be fine I have an AM3+ motherboard with PCI-E 2.0 and an AMD RX 480 (similar to the 1060 it is PCI-E 3.0) it works just fine. So...

PCI-e is backwards and forwards compatible. The card will work on your current board and wont be limited by the 2.0 bus, however it will be limited by your cpu. That's going to require a platform change(motherboard, cpu and ram) to either intel or Zen(when it's released and if it lives up to the hype or atleast comes close to it).

So rest assured that you can use the new videocard on your current motherboard and wait till you have the money for a complete motherboard/CPU/Memory upgrade before upgrading the motherboard.

PCI-E 3 offers the availability for wider bandwidth, though nothing really fills it, the PCI-E 2 interface still has plenty of bandwidth available for your card and the 1060 is backward compatible so that will be fine. Would be giving thought to an upgrade of mobo /CPU, I'd go Intel, you can also wait and see what AMD will offer with the Zen release. They are promoting it to be a big, big jump but we will have to wait and see - they do this with most everything
