I want to try something new, a different cpu, socket 1151

I can get a Xeon E3-1220V5 3 GHz and a i5 4460 or 4590 for almost the same price the i5 4460 is a bit cheaper so i might be able to get another 8gb ram

Which one is fastes i5 or Xeon E5? How big is the difference and does the Xeon cpu require ecc ram?

How do i know if the cpu is the old or new scoket 1150?

The i5 is better for desktop computers. The Xeon does not require ECC RAM but it supports it. I would go with the i5 because it comes with integrated graphics and it is a bit quicker and it comes with integrated graphics.

Oh, if you already had a LGA1150 board, then sure.
