Hey guys, I want to build a PC for my wife so she can use it for basic Photoshop editing and some light Adobe Premiere Pro movie editing. She has a fashion blog where she needs to use Photoshop to do some light edits to her photos before she posts them. Also the movie editing will be with Adobe Premiere Pro which is for some short YouTube videos.

I have done hours of research on my own and have come up with an idea build for her, but would love some expert advice. I was trying to build this PC for around $1000, as she does not need the best of the best. Just something nice and solid to get the job done with a smooth experience while editing. Thanks for the help.

Little description too.

CPU
Put in medium-end CPU from Skylake family.

CPU cooler
Removed it since i5-6500 comes with stock Intel cooler.

MoBo
A LGA1151 socket MoBo that supports current Skylake and future Kaby Lake and Cannonlake CPUs from Intel.

RAM
DDR4, 2x 8GB (16GB total), 2133 Mhz RAM to get the system going.

Storage
Didn't change the SSD.

GPU
Put in a far better GPU than GTX 750 Ti is.
comparison: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-750-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-950/2187vs3510

Case
Switched it out. I hope she likes it (i would :) ).

PSU
Replaced it with 80+ Gold, semi-modular unit from Seasonic.

Monitor
Picked a 24" monitor to fit the budget. You can switch it back to the 27" if you like.

Also a bench between your initial build (base) and my suggestion (alternative).
For her, "Desk" (photoshop) and "Work" (video edit) criteria matter the most, "Game" is just for bonus.

Userbenchmark PC Build Comparison

Baseline Bench: Game 30%, Desk 51%, Work 34%
CPU: AMD FX-6300
GPU: Nvidia GTX 750 Ti
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
RAM: G.SKILL RipjawsX DDR3 1600 C10 2x8GB

Alternative Bench: Game 44%, Desk 69%, Work 43%
CPU: Intel Core i5-6500
GPU: Nvidia GTX 950
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2133 C14 2x8GB

Thanks for the reply. Is a GPU very important for running Photoshop? I see the GTX 950 isn't much more money with the mail in rebate so I guess it wouldn't hurt. But also nice to save money wherever possible. Also nice idea with the pink case ;)

GPU doesn't help much with Photoshop, but it does help in Adobe Premiere Pro and in the games aswell.

With extra $15 (according to the pcpp) you'll get 48% better performing GPU. I'd say that is a great deal.

Since most PC cases are either plain black or white, i decided to make this build to look special, so that she feels loved. ;)

The build i made is a solid medium-end PC according to the today's standards. It will last just fine for several years.
