Both are very similar boards. If you are planning on using multiple video cards, the ASUS Maximum VIII is a better choice with 2 PCIE x16 slots. The Gigabyte has only a single X16 slot. The ASUS also has a comparatively better sound card (8 channels vs 5.1), but that depends on your existing sound system. All other points, such as usb slots, SATA ports, etc. are very similar.

From a reliability point of view, the Gigabyte is considered more reliable than the ASUS. My suggestion is: decide which one fits your needs more. (SLI gaming or not) Then choose which one looks better. ^^;

Well i bought Asus Maximus VIII Hero...and Strix 1070...I Think it was a mistake to go with Asus product

My AI Suite 3 doesn't work properly .....so I was started to google...found 21 pages thread that started in June 2016 on Asus forum...people with same error as mine....and same or very similar configuration...
No support from Asus ....there is NO for buying their products again .
they have some problems with software compatibility ....and looks like they dont really care.

Sorry to hear you're having issues. Have you tried updating the motherboard's BIOS to the latest version?
Some people have said that their problems were solved with the recent update.
My suggestion is:

1) First, clean AI suite completely. Uninstall it from the program files. Then run this cleaner:
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?34503-AI-Suite-III-Cleaner

2) Then, reinstall with the latest version:
Latest version on ASUS drivers.
Then restart and check if AI suite is functioning correctly.

3) If not, repeat step 1. Clean AI suite completely. Then update the BIOS if it is not at version 3003. Then re-install the AI suite.

To be exact, ASUS is aware of the compatibility issues with the GTX 1070 and their AI suite. They are currently trying to solve the issue as we speak. There is no official fix right now, but the steps above might fix the problem.
